Little art gets big showing

For one week, the Galesburg Civic Art Center will be flooded with over 100 miniature works of art in all mediums done by Galesburg High School students. Tom Lytle, a sculpture, drawing and design teacher at GHS, began instructing his students to create works in the 2-by-2 frame in 2006 as a way for them to explore different art forms. “It gives the students a chance to get comfortable with a new medium,” said Lytle. “In many cases, we end up with a small but powerful piece.” The show begins Tuesday and ends with a closing reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. All the works are matted on a board and stuck to the wall with Velcro. Some of the pieces have been shown around Galesburg before, but this is the first time they will be together in their own show. “Each piece is so unique but we’re putting them together in a row,” said Lytle.
